York Tourist Guide & Travel Information

York is a city that is recognised for its rich heritage, city walls and strong links with the Roman Empire who ran their government from here. The face or York changed in 1839 with the introduction of the railway which later became the headquarters for the entire North Eastern Railway, providing thousands of jobs for local residents. In recent years, tourism has become a huge industry due to the city’s powerful history.

For a historic overview of York visitors can go to the National Railway Museum which illustrates the foundations of rail transport and how its creation has affected society. Spread across 20 acres, the museum showcases a diverse range of railway vehicles from all of Britain as it holds arrays of national collections. It is globally the largest museum of rail transport and is the most popular museum in all of Britain outside of London. There are also many vehicles that have been imported from China, France and Japan including the Wagons-Lits sleeping car and Night Ferry service.

Another great museum that is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in York’s Roman history is Jorvik Viking Centre. Here you will come across recreations of streets from the Viking era and a variety of exhibitions that have brought in 15 million visitors over the past 25 years. All artefacts and displays are from archaeological findings where remains of 10th century Viking buildings were found. Dublin Tourist Information & Travel Guide

Dublin is the capital city of Ireland and is regarded as one of the greatest tourist destinations in all of Europe. Throughout the past decade it has under gone severe developmental changes due to the economic boom encountered in the late nineties. The city has many things to offer to visitors with the city’s wide range of attractions available to all.

For a historic guide to Dublin, you can visit Clondalkin Round Tower which can be seen throughout the city and is a fixture located in Clondalkin Village. There seems to be little literature indicating the time period of its construction however many historians have claimed the tower is from a Danish origin whilst others are lead to believe it signifies the very first few Celtic Church’s. For picturesque landscapes of the city, visitors can take a trip to Hell Fire Club, a hunting lodge built in 1720 on Mountpelier Hill. Originally belonging to a member of the Irish Parliament, W. Connelly, the lodge was taken over by alleged devil worshippers, the Hell Fire Club following his death. In present day the lodge belongs to nobody and was completely deserted by the 1940′s by which time the club had deteriorated. The lodge presents magnificent views of Dublin providing extraordinary cityscapes and peaceful surroundings for all visitors.

If you are looking for fun filled activities, Dublin has a spectacular range of facilities available. Kylemore Karting is the top carting venue in the entire country and was the first indoor carting area built in Ireland. It has a 60,000 sq ft track premises and consists of two 360 metre tracks to help enable the thrill of the race. Kylemore Karting facilitates helmets, gloves and suits as part of the package alongside commentaries and video monitoring.

Families can enjoy a trip to Fort Lucan Adventure Land, an adventure playground catering to children between the ages of 2-12. Carrick Tourist Guide & Travel Information

The Local Government district of Carrick is situated in Cornwall and centres its economic power and industry in Truro, Falmouth & Penryn. Truro is a city that was earlier recognised for the trade held from its port which contributed to the mining industry.

There are many attractions for visitors of Carrick, such as Truro Cathedral, a magnificent building, dating back from 1880 when its construction began. Originally a parish church built in the sixteenth-century, Truro Cathedral is English and French in its style and design, which is evident in the rose windows and spires within it. The architecture is very similar to Lincoln Cathedral as the same architect was used to build both. It is seen as a huge tourist destination and attracts over an estimated 200,000 visitors every year.

For a historical view of Carrick, visitors can go to The Royal Cornwall Museum which is in fact Cornwall’s oldest and most prestigious museum. Built in 1885, collections include Fine Art with current work from Bryan Pearce, Cornish Archaeology, Biology and Geology. Here you will come across minerals and mummification objects that all relate to Cornwall and its heritage.

For a more cultural experience of the district, you can visit the Hall for Cornwall, a theatre that draws the attention of 180,000 theatre fans on an annual basis. It is a huge venue located in Truro, consisting of a single auditorium that showcases west end musicals, ballet, opera and a selection of music performances. Historically, the theatre belonged to magistrates, courts, police offices and the Town Hall. Spectacular Christmas trees are positioned in the Piazza and at the Cathedral creating a festive and vibrant atmosphere.

Belfast Travel Guide & Tourist Information

The city of Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland. Originally a market town, Belfast quickly developed into an industrial and vibrant city in the nineteenth century. The city remains divided by walls of separation barriers, creating a strong division between Catholic and Protestant neighbourhoods. The walls have been placed there in order to reduce violence levels between Protestants and Catholics.

Belfast has many attractions to offer visitors to the city and the level of tourism has increased significantly since 2001. A landmark in the area is the Albert Memorial Clock Tower which was built in the early 1960′s following the death of Prince Albert. The tower appears slanted and leans over to one side however; construction work is being carried out to correct this occurrence in order for it to stand vertically.

Another historic building that a tourist must visit is Belfast Castle! Built in 1870, the castle is open to the general public and you will find two stylish restaurants within the castle alongside a heritage centre, providing local and historic information. In addition to this, there is also a children’s play area. From the castle you will encounter magnificent views of the entire city and visitors can take long walks that lead to the cliff, formally known as Napoleon’s Nose.

If you would like to embark upon beautiful garden landscapes then Botanic Garden is the place to be, situated near Queen’s University. Made in 1827, Botanic Garden is widely known for its Palm House where the iron and glass hothouse is kept which is in direct partnership with the London Kew Garden and the Dublin Botanic Garden as they all share the same designer, Charles Lanyon. Here you will find a range of tropical plants and rose beds and every year there are brass band’s which perform in the summer.

Family fun can be enjoyed at Aunt Sandra’s Candy Factory, where visitors get the chance to see and understand how candy was originally made. Once you have entered the sweet shop you will be surrounded by candy scents, sights and sounds as the chocolates are all hand made, using recipes that go back hundreds of years. The sweet shop itself, remains in the same condition as it did when it opened over 50 years ago. Visitors can participate in guided tours and are able to sample test the various varieties of candy, making it an enjoyable experience for both adults and children, especially if you have a sweet tooth.

For shopping, you can visit Westfield (Castle Court) Shopping Centre located in the heart of the city. The indoor shopping centre houses many popular retail stores including Wallis, Debenhams, Tk Maxx, Quicksilver, Dorothy Perkins, Argos, Bay Trading, Gap, New Look, Miss Selfridge, Vero Moda and many more exciting high street brands. To accompany this are also restaurants such as Subway, Bagel Factory, Starbucks, Juiced, Ben & Jerry’s, BB’s Café Bakery and you can also find food and drink facilities in Debenhams. Westfield Shopping Centre is open every day of the week, although opening hours vary daily.
